We R Malaysia
Verse 1:
The sun has arisen
Dawning of a new day
One canopy over our land
With a message of hope
For a future generation
Resounded as One Malaysia
Verse 2:
Many but one, from the
kings to the peoples
This speaks of life that has
begun
Tiada yang lebih indah
Melihat api harapan
Sinari setiap wajah
Chorus:
We r Malaysia, many but one
We r a nation, knitted in love
Berganding tangan bersama
Menuju Satu Malaysia
We are Malaysia, inilah masanya
This one Malaysia, dai biao xi wang (Mandarin–
represent hope)
Nations will look to this land
Founded and built to arise
Hunne samor he (Punjapi – now it’s the time)
Let us press on
Bridge:
A miracle awaits you and me
Iti no masoh (Kandazan Dusun – now it’s the time)
A miracle is all we need to see
Nyelai, Nyelai (Iban – a miracle) A miracle
An original song with 6 languages (English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, Punjabi, Kandazan Dusun, Iban). It is a moment
when Malaysians can make a statement that we don’t only belong to Malaysia; we are Malaysia. Malaysia is at a cross road
in either realizing its identity or losing it in the fast lane of globalization, polarization and technological changes. More and
more the next generation is being exposed to unhealthy influences, being swept along with the flow of the current. And what
currents are we experiencing? For some it is becoming westernized; for others it is becoming polarized. Yet for others, it is
becoming withdrawn – “Who cares what happens as long as I am okay?” attitude. The Malaysia we know is dissolving in this
new form of individualism. If left unchecked, it will erode at the very fabric of our unity and national identity. In the
Malaysian context, what does it mean to live out “unity in diversity”? Regardless of colour, creed or status, we are many but
one.
