10TH December 2011 - Saturday YMCA KL, Brickfields- BB boys started arriving from 2.00p.m, preparing for another band performance. But this one would seem to be a little more special, the Selangor state government has organised a state level Christmas celebration and has invited 3rd KL BB to be part of the celebration! Not only our brass band performed, the company’s senior section also sang 2 songs to enhance the night.
At approximately 4.15p.m two busses of officers, boys and instruments arrived at 1 Utama Shopping Centre. Leaders quickly got the boys organised and prepared for the rehearsal for the brass band. Band members got their prepared their instruments, and went on stage for the final practice under Mr Joe Wong’s guidance.

After the rehearsal for the band performance, everyone quickly changed into their uniforms and waited for the event to commence. Then suddenly at 5.30p.m, sirens of police escorts are heard and we knew that the Menteri Besar of Selangor, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, has arrived. We were the first to start the evening, so band members quickly rushed from backstage and marched unto the stage smartly and uniformly. After Mr Joe Wong, our conductor for the evening gave a bow to the audience, we started playing 3 songs. Those songs are, “Kings’ Mountain Adventure”, “In The Mood” and “YMCA”. The crowd liked it and applauded happily.
As band members retreated to the tent housing performers, other groups (including the 4th JB BB group) went on stage to continue to light up the evening. Some boys stayed in the tent for dinner sponsored by the Selangor government, some took a walk and even bought some nice things from the mall! Everyone really had a great time. Time passed and boys gathered back at the tent for a final session of practicing for the carolling performance which will be led by Honorary Captain Mr Lawrence Tay.
Finally it was time for 3rd KL’s last performance for the night. With L/Cpl Edrick Cheok at the guitar, L/Cpl Wen Xiang at the tambourine and with almost the entire company we marched unto the stage once again to sing two songs. Mr Lawrence greeted the crowd and started the singing. The two songs we sang are “Come on Ring Those Bells” and “Christmas is a Time”. The audience enjoyed it and clapped with joyous hearts.
After everything the boys packed up their instruments and bags to the bus and left for YMCA. Though we were quite tired, smiles were still there as Christmas is around the corner and we were sort of “In The Mood” for this festive season.
3rd KL wishes everyone an awesome Merry Christmas!
