Saturday, 2nd July 2011- YMCA KL, Brickfields- On this day, history was made as 3rd Kuala Lumpur Company had our first ever band concert. What previous members could only dream of, has finally came true after 54 years in our founding. It took well over 5 months of preparations and one band camp in March to make this concert a memorable and meaningful one. Read on as we share to you the excitement that happened on that day.

Matinee Show-3.30p.m- Performers got ready in their respective uniforms and costumes for the afternoon show. As band members continued with their last practice, guests started entering the hall. Ushers were there to greet and escort every guests to their seats. Around 3.45p.m., we began making history. It all started off with speeches from various officers.

The very first performance for this concert is a dance performance by the junior section. These cute little young boys got the crowd going as they danced with the song “Sorry Sorry” by Korean group Super Junior. Then came “The Messengers”, 3rd KL’s choir group. Consisting of some mainly senior section boys and some officers, the all-male choir sang You Raise Me Up, Stand by Me in A cappella and their theme song, Why We Sing. These good looking young men literally brought the crowd into the mood with their sweet voices! After that there was a video presentation that showed 3rd KL’s very first flute and bugle band and how it developed into what we currently have now.

Finally, the long awaited performance has arrived. The crowd cheered on as the brass band marched onto the stage from the backstage and main entrance. The MCs, Honorary Capt. Sir Lawrence Tay and S/Sgt Lee Yan Gen invited our conductor, formerly an officer of 3rd KL BB, Mr Joe Wong onto the stage to conduct the brass band. The brass band stand as Mr Joe Wong bowed to the audience. The grand song of this concert is Through The Years in memory of Michael Jackson. This song also features solos from Clarinet, Saxophone and Flute. The crowd enjoyed it and applauded for the band. Next, a world renowned charity song that is written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian, We Are The World. Solos are played by Horn and Trumpet. Then, the band played I Dreamed a Dream and touches the hearts of those that went for the concert. The last song for the first half of the concert is Tong Hua with a Horn solo at the beginning.

There was then a 10 minute intermission for the audience to rest and enjoy the sponsored food and drinks. After that, the pianist, Liaw Wen Xiang, and the flutist, Wong Lam Kee, gave a performance to the crowd with the song entitled Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love for You. As the crowd applauded for them, the brass band came marching back onto the stage for the last performance for the afternoon show. After Mr Joe Wong bowed to the audience once again, then the band played Copa Cabana. Followed by Amazing Grace with solos from clarinet and flute. The last two songs, Nobody and YMCA were the most enjoyable as the crowd clapped as the band played and enjoyed the songs. Then there was a finale performance as requested by the crowd, we played Kings Mountain Adventure.

As all the performances had ended for the concert, led by Honorary Capt. Sir. Tony Chow we prayed in closing of the afternoon performance.

Premium Show-7.30p.m- There was not much difference between the night show and afternoon show. But as a BB tradition in the very final closing of any BB events, we sung the BB Vesper. 3rd KL BB members then clear the hall quickly and with a final briefing from officers, everyone left for home sweet home.

Indeed let this be one memorable event in 3rd KL history, though many had made mistakes, lets not stop here and learn from our mistakes so that we may improve in the near future. Go 3rd KL BB!

3rd KL Just Do It Right,
In God’s Love We Have the Might,
